for monday the 17th

"The contradiction between the productive forces and the form of intercourse, which, as we saw, has occurred several times in past history without, however, endangering its basis, necessarily on each occasion burst out in a revolution, taking on at the same time various subsidiary forms, such as all-embracing collisions, collisions of various classes, contradiction of consciousness, battle of ideas, etc., political conflict, etc."

I too had massive problems with comprehending this text, this is just one selection of many that confused and befuddled me.

In reviewing Kaseys post I carefully read and read over and over again, the subject matter. I believe that if this passage was written in lay terms it would look something like the following.

"In looking at the difference between productive forces and the form of intercourse, that has occurred in the past, with out changing the forms of intercourse or the productive forces underlying meanings or levels of each one, revolutions have occurred out of necessity, and during this revolution different levels of social classes as well as different levels of intercourse knowingly work together for some underlining goals."

This is apparent in our very own history. The American Revolution for example, this was a war that can in fact be broken down into exactly what this paragraph is saying. The individuals that rebelled against the British consisted of many different social classes as well as levels of intercourse consciously worked together, while many did fight for many different underlying causes, freedom, "political conflict”, class status, and possibly economic growth. According to the passage, this is necessary, and in my opinion, necessary in order to better your class status and what not, and this is human nature.

The only part of this passage I do not completely comprehend has to be the very beginning. I still do not fully understand the productive forces theory. In my understanding, productive forces is pertaining to anything and everything that is possible for any and every individual to use for the better of them, either for class status or economic value.
