Harry potter

Based off our discussions in class and my understanding of feminist critique, I will try and analyze Harry potter from a feminist point of view. The first issue that I think feminist critiques would address is the idea of Harry Potter as another MALE hero, Ron Weasley as his sidekick, and the only substantial character Hermoine Granger who takes the backseat to the other two characters. Feminist critique will also question the nature for which Hermoine is described, she is uptight, sometimes pretentious, over achieving know it all who is often seen spending all her time in the library or in desperate need of rescue. Though Hermoine has helped with the rescue of her male peers, her contribution can been seen as minimal.
Another character that can be analyzed by feminist critiques is Dumbledore, the king of the castle, the main authority. All of the children look up to him in some way, shape or form. The question here is why Dumbledore must be a man, why couldn’t the main authoritative figure have been women. Professor Mcgonagall who is also seen as an authority figure is not revered in the same way as Dumbledore. The main characters that draw the most attention in the series are the male characters. There are no female characters who are of significant power of there male counterparts. Harry’s Aunt Petunia takes a subservient role to her husband, allowing her to influence the way she feels about Harry. Mrs. Weasley is the typical stay at home Mom who attends to the needs or her large family.
Harry Potter, though written by a female writer, still plays into the patriarchal structure for which literature is written. Making the man the center and the standard, and the female characters somewhat opposite or less pronounced would be a social interpretation that feminist analyst would see implied through literature.

I agree with how you describe the characters in this story, all the male characters who were the main characters of this film, they played important roles as heroes, and the girl portrayed the role of being intelligent and always having an answer for everything. The male figures in this story where the most talked about, the women where just portrayed as having some role in the sotry, but not as heroes.
